THE HORNET’S NEST (1955)

THE HORNET’S NEST (1955)

We are delighted to be able to offer our members this new release DVD. THE HORNET’S NEST (1955) is a ripping crime comedy caper and available for the first time on DVD.
The comedy film stars Paul Carpenter, June Thorburn, Marla Landi, Charles Farrell, Alexander Gauge. Christine Silver and Larry Burns.
Produced by Guido Coen and Kenneth Shipman and directed by Charles Saunders and made at Twickenham Studios, Middlesex for Kenilworth Film Productions and released by The Rank Organisation.
‘The Hornet's Nest’ is the name of the barge in the film, but it also refers to the trouble these young people inadvertently get themselves into. There's a sort of ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ vibe with the lovely elderly ladies watching everything from their windows and just a hint of that kooky, beatnik ethos of the 50s in the dialog and in the Les Paul guitar licks commenting on the action, but mostly the plot runs fairly linearly from one end to the other, to deliver the story in a competent amusing fashion.
In this comedy adventure, a jewel thief hides his latest goods in a deserted barge, but ends up in jail. Enter two young models who then buy the barge and with the help of two little old ladies, find the loot and claim the reward.
