The Ring (1928)
One of Hitchcock’s finest silent films, and his only original screenplay. A love triangle melodrama set in the world of boxing.

The Farmer’s Wife (1928)

The Manxman (1930)
Hitchcock’s last silent film based in a remote Isle of Man fishing community, where two men find themselves in love with the same woman.

Blackmail (1929)
The director’s second foray into the crime genre that was to make his name and was the first British full-length sound film. Grocer’s daughter Alice White kills a man in self-defence. Her policeman boyfriend covers up for her, but she was spotted leaving the scene by a petty criminal.

Murder! (1930)
An actress is convicted of murdering another actress in the same touring company, but a distinguished actor who served on the jury, becomes convinced of her innocence.

The Skin Game (1931)
The rivalry between a gentrified family and a wealthy tradesman turns to tragedy when the former use their discovery of the dark past of the tradesman’s daughter-in-law to thwart his building plans.

Rich and Strange (1932)
Allegedly inspired by Hitchcock’s honeymoon with Alma Reville. Fred and Emily Hill go on a cruise to escape their humdrum lives, but both become attracted to other people.

Number Seventeen (1932)
A detective tracks a group of criminals to a deserted house above a rail depot which they are using to escape to the continent, climaxing with the chase to end all chases between a bus and a train.
